The
County Seat was located in Enterprise from 1854-1887.
Isaac Stewart an attorney from DeLand spearheaded the
move to have an election to relocate the County Seat.
In 1887 the fight for the County Seat was on.
DeLand,
New Smyrna, Orange City, Daytona, and Enterprise vied
for the coveted prize. DeLand received the majority
of all the votes cast. After two appeals to the courts,
DeLand was declared the County Seat of Volusia County.
