1998

The 54th Annual Volusia County Fair & Youth Show,
DeLand is scheduled for October 29 - November 8, 1998. Currently
under new and renovating construction, the completion date will be
October 1st. Last year's attendance of 125,000 is expected to
increase 20% with media attention generated by the construction.

Ground acts already booked for the 1998 fair include: The Granpa
Cratchet Puppet Show, The Steve Bayner Hypnotist Show, and
Phillip's Exotic Petting Zoo. Delighting children of all ages will be
Viet's Entertaining Monkeys as they stroll the grounds daily.
Entertainment is still being arranged for events in the new 3,000 seat
Tommy Lawrence Arena, however those already scheduled are:
country music artist Darryl Singletary - October 30th, country music
artist Wade Hayes - October 31st, New Dimension Wrestling -
November 2nd, country music artist Rhett Atkins - November 7th
and "Mr. Yakety Sax" Boots Randolph - November 8th.

The success of last year's Contemporary Christian Night assures
us that the second Friday night will again be well attended.
Providing the midway again this year will be United Shows of
America, Inc. Ed Gregory will provide two country acts, which are
always a success, for November 7th.

A new addition this year will be the Country Crock Family Muffin Marathon Contest held on Saturday, October 31. This event, sponsored by Country Crock, involves teams of friends or family rushing around relay stations to measure, mix, and fill muffin tins in the shortest amount of time. Prizes are provided by Country Crock with the winning team for the day entered into a national drawing to win Groceries for a Year !

Both weekends of the fair will feature the Daytona USA show car on display. This attraction draws attention from all ages - when the engine is revved up people come from all corners to see the car.

New livestock pens and barns are included in the long awaited construction and youth are excited about participating. All in all this year's Brand New Fair should be an overall success.
